Sotarage-you keep information in, and it would be there even if the electricity is off.
Storages: hard drive, CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs.
CDs and DVDs are the optical storages(uses the light - laser)
DON"T PUT CD IN MICROVAWE!!!!!!!!!
CD-ROM
1part: label and the side you write stuff on, the other side is reflectable surface.
2part:plastic
Write with the soft marker on the CD not the pen, because it can damage the reflective surface.Each Cd has billions of little spots, laser eather bounce light of them or not, so all information on the CDs is written in binery.When cleaning the disk do it from centre to the edges.
HARD DRIVE AND FLOPPY
Hard drive and floppy use magnetic media to store information.
Each magnet has 2 poles+ and - , this represents binery.
Do not put magnets near the floppy or hard drive, because it can be damaged.
Don't mess with the metal thing on floppy, because it produses the static electricity and electricity can damage magnets on floppy.

Mother board-one of the major components of the computer. It controls all the work computer does.
CPU(central prossesing unit0:
  • attached to the mother board
  • does all sorts of math
  • surrounded by thermal compounand. It protects the CPU from getting too hot. It gets hot because a lot of electricity pass through it.

RAM(random access memory):

  • attached to the mother board
  • needs the electricity to store the information in
  • fast computers have big ram , that means that you can work on a lot of stuff at the same moment.

PCI-periferal computer interface,sort of connection.

Speed of the computer is measured in Herts. It shows how fast electricity goes through the computer.

Today we talked about input and output divices.
Input:mouse, keyboard, monitor(sometimes), microfon, scanner.
Output: monitor, speakers, printer.
Computer understands only on and off. So it uses the binery number sistem. The number system with the base two.
128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
1 0 1 0 0 0
101000 is 40 in the binery nuber system.

For the last two periods we did the presentations.
Well it was good, I've lernt a lot of interesting and useful information.
Firs of all now I know what is mother board and what it does. Mother board is the center of the computer and it controls all the prosseses that are going on in the computer. The second important thing I've learnt is about ROM(random access memory). I always thought that you store information in it, but now I know that ROM works only when the electricity is on, but when you turn the computer off it clears. I also lernt that there two types of monitors, and that they work in complietly different ways. CD player uses a laser technology to read the CD disks.
Also people talked about the video and sound cards. Video card is used to display videos and graphics. Sound card control sound supplies.

Keyboard.
  • came from mechanical typewriters that didn't use electricity.
  • were invented by U.S. mechanical engineer Chirstopher Latham Sholes.
  • input device- you put information in your computer using the keyboard.
  • keys of the keyboard called keycaps
  • has 80-100 keys(typing keys, numeric keypad, funtion keys and control keys).
  • has it's own processor.
The way keyboard works.
  • uses a switch to pass the electrical signal to the processor.
  • processor filters it
  • the most of circuitry is rodused by the key matrix.
Character map.
  • located in the ROM
  • processor uses it to define the keys of the keys of the keyboard.
Switches of the keyboard.
  • keyboard uses a lot of the switch tecnologies
  • each key of the keyboard is spring-loaded and has a tiny plate attached to it
  • by pressing the key you move the plate on the key closer to the plate on the keyboard
  • as the two plates move closer to each other the amount of current flowing through the matrix changes
  • the processor detects the changes and inturprit the signal as the key press
  • the other switches that used in the keyboard are mechanical;
  • Mechanical key switches include:
* Membrane
* Rubber dome
* Metal contact
* Foam element
  • rubber domes quite are common; they use small flexible rubber dome with hard carbon center; they are inexpenive, good at use;
  • membrane keyboards use the flat surface instead of the keycaps and don't produce the klicking sound; they are not very common;
  • metal contact and foam element keyboards are much less common; they have the spring in each of the keycaps; after some time the contacts could wear out, so tht it's no longer good for use;

Keyboard.
Keyboards came from mechanical typewriters that didn't even used electricity. Chirstopher Latham Sholes, the U.S. mechanical engeneer, patented the typewriter thatlooks like the keyboard we usually use nowadays.
Keyboard is a input device which means that using the keyboard you get information into your computer. The keys of the keyboard also called keycaps. They placed in the same pattern and same distance from each other on each and every keyboard.
Most keyboards have 80-100 keys. They divided in a few groups:

  • Typing keys.
  • A numeric keypad.
  • Function keys.
  • Control keys.

Keyboard is a lot like a miniature computer. It has its own prossesoor. A large part of the circuitry of the keyboard produced by the key matrix.
The way the keyboard works is that when you press the key, it presses switch. That produces the circuit and allows the small amount of current to get through. In the plain words it means that when you press the key it sends the electric signal to the prossesor and prossesor filters it. If you press and hold the key, then prossesor recognizes that as if you press the key several times.
Character map is located in the ROM, and it helps prossesor to difine the keys. For example when you tipe the letter f it turns out to be the small letter f, but if you press Shift with the f key it turns out to be the capital F. And the way it works is that prossesor kind of "cunsults" the ROM. Most of the keyboards have the same character map but however you can change it and sometimes it could be differnt.

Today we going to start a new assigment about how computer works. For the assigment our group got keyboard.
Today I've learnt that hardware is the parts of the computer that you can touch. And software are programs, that make your hardware work.

Today it was the third computer class.
We went through e-mail stuff. I used e-mail for the long time, so it wasn't new for me. The new information I got about e-mail is about Cc. and Bcc. I wanted to know that so I asked my friends and parents, but they said something like "Who cares?". So today I've lernt that Cc. is the copy of the letter that you want to send to a lot of people at the same time. And Bcc. is the copy that you're sending to a person and to another person and you don't wanna the person you sending it to to know that you have sent it to somebody else. Today my curiosity was satisfied about these things.

Now I wanna tell you a bit about my interests.
I like arts and I wanna become interior designer. My favourite colour is GREEN.
I like music, because it helps me when I depresed or in a bad mood. Mostly I listen to rap, but I respect rock and like some of the rock bands. My favourite singer is Eminem. I also like 50cent, Snoop Dog, Gorillaz, Green Day...and a lot of others that I can't think of now.

My family.
My family got three members: my mom, dad and my brother. I also got two pets-birds.
So I think that's all I gotta tell about myself.

Hi!! My name is Tatiana and I'm 14. My birthday is February 14. I wanna give you a bit of my background. I was born in Russia in a small provincial town named Saratov. I lived there for 13 years and then I moved to Canada. I've been here since January and I really like it here.
